I had a fantastic day.

I hadn't spent much time with [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse and [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter in a while, and especially not all together. We had a blast. There were biscuits and muffins, carrot cake preserves and clotted cream, baked brie with onion jam, and tea sandwiches (with the crusts cut off!) and delicious tea. We ate so much food I'm amazed any of us could walk at all at the end of the day.

[livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse got a ton of crocheting done, and I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter got a ridiculous amount of words written, the way she usually does, and I actually did get a bit of writing in. My computer threw a temper tantrum and decided that it didn't like the electricity at [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter's house, so I did most of my work longhand. Not too many words, but it's the first fiction I've written since August, and that was a couple of little things. Before that, I hadn't written since November 15th, 2007. Hopefully I'll be able to turn around this whole slump.

When we weren't working, we chatted and giggled so hard that I had tears in my eyes on occasion. We discussed a huge range of topics, from books to why one would read an author's blog when one hasn't read any of his books. We commiserated with [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter about having to provide feedback on truly awful romance novel manuscripts, joked about marauding dairy products, and generally had what is known as a Good Day.

I was going to treat myself to the new James Bond movie tonight, but it was sold out when I tried to buy tickets. It came out today, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the 22:00 show was sold out at 20:30.

Nonetheless, I had a productive —and kind of expensive— evening downtown. I suppose it's a blessing that I didn't get to spend a ton of money on James Bond, because I bought a bunch of books while I was downtown. I've been in the habit of picking up the books in series I like, but often enough I can't find them in order, and so I kind of have random numbers of each series. This drives me nuts, because *cough*slightlyOCD*cough* I can only re-read books in a series by starting them in order and reading from first to last.

Yeah.

Anyway, so I went out and completed a bunch of my incomplete series tonight. I also found a book that I'd been looking for for months so I am feeling smug. Bwah.

[livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste once mentioned that I never talk about books in my LJ, although I am an avid reader, and she's quite right. I am considering making a weekly "feature" in my LJ, a bit like [livejournal.com profile] bodhifox's Thankful Thursdays and Tuesday Tune-Ups, in which I'll talk about a book, or many books, or even *gasp* a whole genre. I haven't done anything like a book review or lit. crit. in many, many years, so we'll see if I've forgotten everything or not.

Busy weekend ahead. Then it's back to work on Monday.

Yes, talk about books! I want to know what you read.

I'm the same way about series books. And once I start a series, I HAVE to have all the next ones, asap. I can't like, finish one and then get the next one. I want them all rightnow, so I can see them lined up waiting for me. It's ridiculous, really.

And that sounds like a lovely day. Mine was shitty, so I enjoyed yours vicariously. :)

I'm sorry you had a shitty day, as I noted elsewhere.

Hey, why don't you post your address in my other post? It's screened, and I am going to try to get my act together this year for greeting cards (Generic Seasonal Greetings, as my friend [livejournal.com profile] prolixfootle would say!). Sparkly cards in the mail are always fun. :)

It's too bad about the job: I seem to recall you were optimistic about it at first. It might still improve with time.

*more hugs*

I am similarly patience-impaired when it comes to series.
