Dear Local Friends,

PayPal is being very unreasonable and charging very very high fees on all your transactions. So far they're keeping about 10% of all donations I've received. I am Very Unhappy about this (especially since I thought I read the TOS pretty carefully), but there doesn't appear to be much I can do about it.

I was going to personally cover whatever "extra" got eaten by Paypal, but at this rate it's going to be a bit more than I can chew if I bite it off (to wreck a perfectly good expression). So, if you don't mind, if you are a local friend, I would much MUCH rather get a donation in person.

I will happily come to you at a time which is convenient for all concerned.

Non-local people who wish to contribute: never fear! I will still cover whatever "difference" PayPal chooses to impose.

Remember: all donations of $20 and more are tax-deductible!

Oh good; I don't feel so bad about planning to hand you money in person this Saturday. :)

Are you and Carolyn coming into town for the Tarasmas festivities? That would be spectacular!

I'll be there barring a zombie outbreak along the 401; Carolyn will likely have to work, unfortunately...

Do you need a place to stay or are you planning on driving home afterward? Our B&B is open to you.

That sounds lovely. I may very well take you up on that!

They shouldn't be taking 10%.

Here is the URL for their fees.

Here is the URL for "cross-border payments". Those should only apply when your friends outside Canada donate.

None of that comes out to 10%.

Get in touch with them and ask them what's up. There is a contact link at the bottom of most pages.

I have never had fees that high.

Would you prefer a mailed check, or PayPal? Your choice.

A mailed check might be better. I can email you my address when I get home.

Thank you ever so much!

Use www.chipin.com instead

Chipin's website appears to indicate that they send the money to your PayPal account, and that "PayPal may charge [...] a processing fee."

I'll give it a closer look later. Thanks!
