We were lent a Pentax for our trip and it is *not* a fun camera to use. Too long a delay between pressing the button and taking the picture-- half the pictures I took didn't turn out.
I asked this same question and it seems like people are happiest with Cannon. I know that that's what I plan to buy.
I'd suggest that you try the camera out in store if you can. At least to see what the delay is like.
