Premier of NB from 1987 to 1997 - he stepped down because when elected he said he's spend no more than ten years in office - and he did. I think it was partly a manouvre to be remembered as a guy who keeps political promises ;) While he waa in power, he did a really great job at geting the technology industry to invest in the NB economy, and so forth, although a lot of the jobs created didn't necessarily last. There is a write up on him on Wikipedia, anyway. I see the fact that he has not been involved with Federal politics, at least officially, for a while means that he is less likely to be associated with old Liberal scandals. He has a bunch of corporate ties as well, but I'm less familiar with them.
