Date: 2005-11-01 03:31 pm (UTC)...because there are ONLY French Canadians in Quebec...
...among many other logical flaws I could name...
And it's the National Post, really. What do you expect? Kowtowing to Americans and promoting tunnel-visioned conservativism is what they do best.

Date: 2005-11-01 03:42 pm (UTC)Pretty much.
I had to suffer through Granatstein in university ("Who Killed Canadian History?"), and while some of his stuff obviously has merit, a lot of the rest is just bile and vitriol. He has a serious axe to grind about military history, and he never misses an opportunity to let the sparks fly.
I just wish someone would muzzle him already.
"No, Jack. You can't belong to this university if you're going to make stupid-ass comments to the press..." :P

Date: 2005-11-01 05:42 pm (UTC)So to say that his use of the statistics is skewed is putting it mildly. :P
As I recall, there was a majority of people in Canada who didn't support the war.
Also, I'd like to point out that Quebec is in fact part of Canada, and comprises 1/6 of the country's population. Why the hell should our opinion suddenly be ignored just because some jackass anglo historian thinks only the ROC should have a say in foreign policy? When you ask for a Quebecker's opinion, by definition you're also getting the opinion of a Canadian. Last time I checked, we hadn't separated yet.
*grr*
Sorry, this topic is making me grouchy. Stupid Granatstein.
