I am *so* tired.

I don't even know what I did to be so tired. Maybe it's the Neurontin. Maybe I just need to go to bed earlier. I just crashed massively, needless to say. Nonetheless, tired or no, I want to get a lot of stuff done this afternoon, in terms of getting my apartment clean and organised.

One of the main reasons I'm doing a razzia of this sort is that one of the cats, or maybe several of them, I don't know, has taken to using very inappropriate places in the apartment to pee. This is highly distressing, as it makes my apartment stink to high Heaven *and* tends to ruin the objects they pee on.

I've already rolled up the futon and put it in the closet. Luckily it had a protective sheet over it which took the brunt of the damage, but nonetheless, I don't want cat pee on the futon, thankyouverymuch. When I have money I'll get a wooden frame for it and get it covered properly. In the meantime, I've cat-proofed it by getting it the f*ck out of the way.

I've got rid of an old nasty carpet that also has served as a toilet one too many times. :P

There are two smaller carpets which have yet to be peed on but which I'm getting rid of anyway as they just attract mountains of cat hair. I wouldn't be surprised one day to find that one of the humongous balls of fur that accumulate on them has come to life and "blessed" me with another kitty.

List of What Still Needs to Be Done

1- Sweep the floors in living-room/dining area and kitchen. One of my francophone friends uses "broom" as a verb, which I find so incredibly cute. "I have to broom the floors." Hee! ^_^

2- Throw away a metric assload of papers (love that expression, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] joane for introducing it to me) so that I can actually see my table.

3- Do several loads of laundry. Right now the sheets that the cat(s) peed on are in the washing machine, and they're going to get two gos at it, because, well, cat pee is gross and smells bad. *cringe* Sort the rest of the laundry into piles (whites, colours, too-covered-in-cat-hair-to-be-recognisable, darks).

4- Do some vacuuming, especially the armchair that Smudge has claimed as his own. It used to be green. It's now black with green spots here and there. Blurgh.

6- Clean up the kitchen (dishes, countertops, stovetop —which is once more covered in cat hair *sigh*).

7- Do a "swish & swipe" in the bathroom, and clear out the laundry that's been accumulating there (see item #3).

8- Do some "flinging" of useless junk that's accumulated in the bathroom as well.

9- Go through fridge and cupboards and toss out stuff that's gone bad/has been infested with icky bugs (I've become paranoid since the bug incident earlier this week. Ewww... O_o)

10- Set up my "office space" in the corner where I used to keep the futon. I bought a three-month dry-erase wall calendar so that I can keep track of all my projects, and a small dry-erase board for writing down useful things on something *other* than small scraps of paper. Small scraps of paper get lost and I don't always look in my little black book for things, so this will be useful, I hope.

Eventually I'm going to go to IKEA to get a desk and other home-office stuff so that I can actually keep proper track of my work at home. Anyone who needs a car and stuff from IKEA is welcome to tell me in advance and we can go together. Provided, of course, that you live in Montreal. ;) I'll probably be going sometime in October, when most of my financial stuff will be completely settled (i.e., I'll have room on my credit card again).

I'm thinking of installing another shelf in my bathroom. I have nowhere to put my stuff (the medecine cabinet is actually too shallow to put anything in it: I swear, the shelf space is less than an inch wide), and thus I've been sticking it on top of the toilet tank and on top of a very narrow fish tank I haven't dared put fish in since the goldfish incident in July. (In other news, I have a *new* baby snail in my small aquarium! They're breeding like flies! O_o)

The reason I want to do all this stuff today? My mother has told me that she's going to come this weekend on another "crisis cleaning mission of mercy" (my term, not hers). While I appreciate her helping me out, I don't especially want her coming here and finding the whole place in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome).

Now, it's nowhere near as bad as it has been in the past. I've been reasonably good about keeping it halfway decent, but it doesn't exactly qualify as clean either.

I'm also trying to keep a lid on my own sanity. I've now had three or four days in which I have been neither horribly depressed nor hypomanic. At best it's been mild dysthimia or mild hyperthymia. I think this is mostly due to the absence of outside stressors, rather than anything I've done personally or the Neurontin, which is not yet at any kind of effective dosage, so I'm going to do my level best to maintain this. This is what I've noticed so far:

1- I tend to feel less anxious/stressed out when things are reasonably tidy and under control in my apartment.

2- Having a clear idea of what my workload is makes anxiety and panic attacks "magically" go away.

3- Having a regular schedule helps to keep the mood swings more manageable than otherwise.

More to the point, I'm not sure what the cause-and-effect relationship is here. I don't know if having a regular schedule, being on top of my work and keeping my apartment tidy cause me to be on a more even keel, or if when I'm on an even keel I find it easier to have a regular schedule, be on top of my work and keep my apartment tidy.

Nonetheless, all these events tend to coincide, as do their opposites. When my moods spiral out of control so does the rest of my life, and when my life spirals out of control so do I. So I have to keep up regular routines as best I can, in the hopes that it'll help in the future.

So I'm turning back to my trusty FlyLady, and re-establishing my routines and babystepping my way to having a consistently clean apartment. :)

...

*sigh*

One day I'm going to be able to pat myself on the back for accomplishing something more noteworthy than keeping a clean kitchen sink. Until then, I'll keep going with the small victories over myself.
