I've had two unrelated thoughts, one last night which I told myself I should post here, and the other just now, which reminded me of the one I had last night.
The first one is that it never before ocurred to me that Jesus Christ is a synecdoche. Not the name, but the man himself: he is the part used in the Bible to describe the whole. "As often as you do it for the least of these, you do it for me."
Yes, I'm a literature geek, to be thinking of the Lord in terms of a rhetorical device. Sue me.
The second unrelated thought, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to have had it, is that the United States is just about the only country I know of that wages war on abstractions (drugs and terrorism specifically, but there might be others).
