Character Survey

Favourite three characters? Vicky, definitely. I have a soft spot for Gheneris, my first character, and right now Safiya is a riot.

Least favorite character? Buh? I like all my characters, thank you very much.

Male or female characters? I have yet to play a male character in a table-top game, otherwise I'd say the percentages are 70% female 30% male.

Oldest Character? In terms of their age, or the first one I created? I think the oldest one is Dickie, who's 36, and the oldest one I created was Gheneris.

Newest character? Dickie Robertson

Character you've never played? I assume by this you mean "character I've created but never played." There are a few of those, actually. One would be Cecily, another Iirsham Gudnudir (Traveller name creation: I didn't make it up), and another unnamed (I kept changing my mind) character for Incarnate that I hope to bring to life some day, among others.

Which character of yours would be most likely to...

...Jump off a bridge? Bill and Karmen
...Get drunk and pass out? Vicky and Bill, done and done.
...Kill somebody in a very unorthodox way? Travels Between, done and done. Also Virginia and Dickie and Karmen. Wow... I have a lot of characters with weird violent impulses. I should look into that. ;)
...Be far too hyper for their own good? Safiya and possibly Carrie.
...Get lost and refuse to ask for directions? My HoE character, whose name I don't remember offhand (it was a short-lived campaign and my brain is dead right now: it'll come back to me).
...Star in a horror movie? Vicky. Her life was a very entertaining horror movie: she was undead twice. Carrie also would have done well in a horror movie, given her past (she was an unwitting cannibal, poor girl: long story)
...Star in a romance movie? Safiya
...Star in a video game? Carinda (not the same Carrie), Vicky if it was a Wild West setting
...Make the world a better place? Gheneris, if it involved using healing and nature, Vicky if it involved blowing away the bad guys.
...Have a torrid gay love affair? Safiya, because she is a walking torrid gay love affair. ;)

Relate each word to a character of yours:
Love: Gheneris
Hate: don't know... none of my characters progressed that far
Money: Virginia
Seduction: Safiya
Lies: Adoracion
Tragedy: Vicky
Manipulation: Adoracion
Violence: Vicky
Politics: Jeanne
Fire: Travels Between (she died immolated from within)
Ice: Virginia

Would you ever...
...Play a prostitute? Yes. Safiya is a prostitute.
...Play a musician? Yes. Shannon was a cellist, and Rowena was originally a musician before she became a full-time cleric.
...Play a pilot? Yes. Carrie was a pilot, and Virginia was a navigator with piloting skills.
...Play a homosexual? Yep. Safiya's gay.
...Play a pedophile? Depending on the type of game, I suppose I... no. Can't do it. Too icky. Maybe an NPC in a game I was running, as long as he/she died messily at one point.
...Play a politician? Yes. Adoracion is a politician of sorts. ;)
...Create a character for the sole purpose of smut? Yes. Safiya. ;)

Well, sort of.

Got up around 11, and was pleased to see that in spite of the fact that I'd overslept I hadn't got a parking ticket. Yay!

Perused LJ, then hopped into car to go have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave. It is absolutely glorious out there: there's barely a cloud in the clear blue sky, and the few clouds that are present are fluffy cumulous clouds that are happy and cheerful. It's a balmy 11° out there (Celsius, for those of you who are confused), and all of Montreal is basking in the long–awaited sunshine.

Little darling, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear

That's definitely the prevailing sentiment, anyway.

It's very hard to be in a bad mood on a day like today. Even I'm feeling a good deal better than I was earlier this week, and I'm quite convinced it mostly has to do with the weather (and the fact that I got a decent amount of sleep for once).

We stopped by HMV, where [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave picked up some Type O-Negative (I think that's what they're called), and I got myself a copy of the Dixie Chicks' latest album, even though I can't afford it at all, especially since my Idiot Landlord™ has once again outdone himself by cashing two rent cheques on the same day.

Then again, I'm getting paid tomorrow (slightly reduced paycheque because I've worked less hours over the past few weeks), so I should be okay until the end of the month.

The problem with my Idiot Landlord™ is that he's perfectly within his rights to cash my cheques whenever the damned hell he pleases. I just have to suck it up and deal. Actually, I'm beginning to wonder whether I won't give him postal orders or something, that way the money will already be spent and I won't have to worry about it as much. I wonder if I can do that, or whether I'm legally obligated to give him cheques?

Worth looking into, at any rate, as this is doing nothing for my budget.

Last night was supposed to be Third Empire, but for some as yet undetermined reason [livejournal.com profile] blackbuffet didn't turn up, so instead I spent about five hours knitting and chatting with [livejournal.com profile] curtana and [livejournal.com profile] forthright about gaming and sundry topics. Much fun was had, and I assume we'll be rescheduling Third Empire for two weeks from now.

You all may have noticed over the past few days a good number of "fluff" posts in this LJ and may be wondering where Angsty!Phnee has got to (or rejoicing at her departure, for all I know). The explanation is simple: I was boring myself with my own whininess, so I've decided to post more fluff for a while. There's been altogether too much navel-gazing in this LJ of late, and it's time I took my head out of my ass the sand and tried to see what was out there as well as in here.

So, unless I really get into another funk I'm going to try not to wallow in self-pity for a while. :)

In such a world of conflict, a world of victims and executioners, it is the job of thinking people, not to be on the side of the executioners.
--Albert Camus

There never was a good war or bad peace.
-- Benjamin Franklin

I do not mean to exclude altogether the idea of patriotism. I know it exists, and I know it has done much in the present contest. But I will venture to assert, that a great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of interest, or some reward.
--George Washington

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. quote verified at snopes.com
--Hermann Goering (yes, him: the quote was verified at snopes.com)

Unconditional war can no longer lead to unconditional victory. It can no longer serve to settle disputes. It can no longer be of concern to great powers alone. For a nuclear disaster, spread by winds and waters and fear, could well engulf the great and the small, the rich and the poor, the committed and the uncommitted alike. Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind.
--John F. Kennedy

There are no warlike people, just warlike leaders.
--Ralph Bunche

The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war.
--Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Peace is not the absence of war; it is a virtue; a state of mind; a disposition for benevolence; confidence; and justice.
--Spinoza

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. (1918)
--Theodore Roosevelt

Addendum:
I'm not going to lock comments on this post. I did on my last post like this, but then I decided I found the practise annoying. As long as I'm going to post quotes, I'm going to give people the opportunity to reflect on them if they want.

There's no angsting in here, don't worry. ;)

I took George (the younger FFE) to the vet for his booster shot today, and while the visit itself went well (aside from a really hyper Yorkie with a barrette on its head who thought it could take George no problem and would have had its ass handed to it on a platter had I let George out of the carrier), the end was not so good.

Why?

My credit card got refused. Regardless that I paid off more than half of it last week. I am seriously pissed off about this.

I had to go to the bank in order to withdraw money from my savings account (which is empty but not overdrawn like my checking account, which is overdrawn thanks to my Idiot Landlord™).

So now not only is my credit card apparently maxed out (I have no idea why as I haven't touched it in months), but both my bank accounts are overdrawn, leaving me literally broke and very much in debt.

Thank goodness I get paid tomorrow, but I ask you, how the fuck am I supposed to become financially solvent at this rate? It's not like I spend recklessly here: the Dixie Chicks CD I bought today is the first non-essential purchase I've made since January. Otherwise I buy food and gas and pay my bills.

*sigh*

I think the Universe is enjoying kicking me around. It's nothing life-threatening, of course, but it's still damned annoying.

It doesn't help that *everyone* is jerking me around about finances: my company, my Idiot Landlord™, my insurance company, everyfreakingone.

Why can't people conduct their financial transactions when they say they will? Is it that hard? Huh?

Okay, so given the total lack of success of my last try with this format, I'm trying again. I already know which of you don't like the kind of question I'm asking first, so I won't get offended if you don't respond. The rest of you, however, are encouraged to post to all questions. :)

:::edit::: LJ is being a pain for some reason and is not letting me post this poll. I will repost it in a separate entry. My apologies for the inconvenience.

In other news, I had a nice magret de canard with asparagus and broccoli with the Parental Units, who got up to all kinds of exciting things today. For instance, they finally had that storage compartment built in the garage, which is very nifty indeed. Sadly, it takes up a lot of room, which means I probably won't be able to park there anymore.

My mother also bought a mattress, which turned out to be a monster of behemoth proportions. I swear it's at least a foot thick, and my mother insists that it's the smallest one they had in the store (she went to the Linen Chest). The girl there told her that because people are "bigger" (her words) they want bigger mattresses with more support. So now they make them fifteen to eighteen inches thick. Weird.
