Sleep is my friend
Dec. 28th, 2002 11:15 pmPaintball ROCKED!
fearsclave has already described the early frustrations at Action Commando: having to wait over an hour because of overcrowded conditions and an absolutely astoundingly brainless girl at the counter (it was her first night) who couldn't even reach behind her to hand me one of the chest protectors which were hanging from a hook because she had to wait for her boss to come and show her how to do it.
Otherwise, after a rocky start, paintball rocked, as usual. It's a funny thing about me and paintball: I never really want to go, but once I'm out on the field I have a blast. Weird. I guess it's my rational side kicking in off the field and telling me that I must be nuts to want to go and roll around in the sand and get covered in bruised and welts and paint and dirt.
Heh.
Shot many people. For the first time in my paintball history I emptied my marker of paint and even had to borrow some from Fearsclave. Quit the field about ten minutes before Fearsclave and Poms, tanked a lot of water and tried to clean myself up a bit, to limited success.
We then piled into respective vehicles and ended up at Hurley's where I got to meet
ajpursell who has over the years become something of a gaming legend in one of my roleplay groups, so it was nice to actually meet the guy.
He's everything they told me, and then some. The guy rocketh. Next time he should come play paintball with us. We ate some nachos that he'd ordered before (the kitchens, sadly, were closed, which meant only snack food), drank Guinness (I switched to Coke after as I was driving) and discussed gaming and related anecdotes until 2:30 am.
Have lured ajpursell to my newfound LARP, whose webboard can be found here: Perdurabo (Don't ask me what it means, I don't know.)
The moderators (Allan and another guy whose name I can't remember) can be reached at this address: perdurabomtl@hotmail.com, if you include the subject line "New Player." Or whatever. ;)
When Fearsclave became so sozzled (6 pints later) that he began repeating himself and waxing eloquent about "playing paintball, gettin ghigh on adrenaline, drinking Guinness with my friends and talking about gaming" I felt it was time to call it a night. So we poured him into the front seat of my car and I drove both him and ajpursell home.
Got home at 3:30am, took a bath, read a bit to unwind (I was all overstimulated from the evening) and crashed at 4:00am. Woke up at 3:30, toddled over to the Parental Units' for tea and then dinner, watched First Wave, then Buffy The Vampire Slayer which I hadn't seen since the premiere having no TV of my own, and then part of a regrettable movie starring Van Damme.
Toddled home.
All in all, a satisfactory end of the week and beginning of the weekend.
Have some noodling to do, as a thought about my life's direction hit me on the way home, but nothing that need be worried about right away.
