No eye-rolling here! I think learning to cook well, learning to fix minor things, etc, are great ideas that will enhance your life, and are good uses of your time! On the fixing things, don't overlook youtube - my goodness, there are instructional videos for EVERYTHING!
So glad you are happy in your little house. Do keep bugging about the wiring, though; could be a fire hazard.
