Yeah, it just... caught me off-guard. I'm not usually susceptible to things I read, just like that.
The story practically mirrored my experience, except that the guy in question ended up hospitalized, which I never did. But everything, down to the obsessing about being perfect at his job, role-immersion, becoming accident-prone and numb, the self-injury... guh. It was a little horrifying. I think the OP might have some personal experience with it. I hope she doesn't, but the descriptions make me think otherwise.
