To fix the leak, you want to buy a roll of something called "Teflon Plumbing Tape" from any decent hardware store/Home Depot/Canadian Tire. It should be easy to find in the plumbing section. It's narrow, light and incredibly thin stretchy plastic, and you wrap a couple of turns around the screw threads then screw the washing machine hose back on (remember to turn the tap off *before* you unscrew the hose). That should, with any luck, do the trick.
