Posty spam!

Elizabeth Peters is an evil, evil woman. The more I read, the more I want. I got my hands on a copy of "The Falcon At the Portal" and it just about broke my heart in twelve separate pieces. Wah! Nefret! Wah! Ramses! Waaaaaaah!

:::gets stabbed repeatedly in heart by cruel, merciless author:::

I can't begin to imagine how hard it must have been for her to do that to her characters. [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter is entirely to blame for my current heartbreak: she introduced me to the series.

In other news, work is work. I have so many things going on these days that I have no time at all to post about them, and more stuff is piling itself on top of that, and yet I still have to wedge sleep in there somewhere. Sleep-deprived!Phnee is not a fun Phnee, let me tell you.

Let's make a grocery list of stuff that's taking place in Phnee's existence these days:

1- Work. Yeah, it's not fun, but it's 40 hours out of my week, not counting travel time. That makes it more like 45 to 50 hours.

2- Dancing. I'm still volunteering at the Bolo Club, which I don't mention by name very often, it occurs to me. I go between two and three times a week, sometimes to volunteer at reception, sometimes "only" to dance.

3- Band. I'm still the drummer for [livejournal.com profile] random_colour, and we have practice every Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. We're adding four or five new songs to our set list this summer, and our next gig is (I think) schedule for September 23rd. That's closer than you think. :)

4- Writing. Still producing one serial every week and another every two weeks. I have writing jams with the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse three Wednesdays out of every four of the month, and the occasional writing jam with the equally lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter when I can get a Friday off work. Got two novels on the go and a project for some short stories, and am (suicidally) pondering the three-day-novel in September.

5- Nebula Book Club. So the Wednesday I'm not writing with [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse I'm attending a science fiction and fantasy book club, which is a blast. I'd been looking for a way to expand my sci fi and fantasy repertoire, and this is a great way to not only do that, but to exercise my long-neglected literary analysis muscles. So far I've read "The Doomsday Book," "The Scar" and "Downbelow Station." Next up is "The Eyre Affair."

Upcoming stuff:

6. Suicide Action Montréal. In an attempt to get a better idea of what it's like to deal with real live crises, I'm becoming a volunteer at Suicide Action Montréal, which is a suicide hotline (what gave it away?). Training will be the last weekends in August, after which I'll be manning the lines four hours a week for the next year or so. The main drawback to this is that they have a fixed schedule: four-hour shifts starting at midnight, although volunteers are only online in the slots between 8am and midnight, and paid employees do the graveyard shift. This will make scheduling, umm, interesting. The office is at the other end of the city (literally) from where I live, and on a metro line that shuts down *before* the 8-to-midnight shift ends. Given that I finish work at 5pm... yeah. Scheduling will be a challenge. However, I'll figure something out.

7. Fitness. I very rarely discuss this sort of thing on LJ, apart from mentioning in general terms that I'm trying to eat healthier, or what have you. I have a much better self-image than I did several years ago, having spent a great deal of time on coming to like myself for who I am, etc. That being said, since January I have been making a conscious effort to be healthier. I have cut out a good deal of the junk food I used to eat on a regular basis. I am more phyisically active. As a result, I have lost all the weight I gained while working at the bank, and a tiny bit more besides. Now I feel that I'm in the proper headspace to start putting a more concentrated effort into becoming physically fit (as opposed to just leading a slightly healthier lifestyle). I have given myself the goal of running a marathon when I'm thirty years old. I will be joining a gym near my office, probably in September when I have money that right now is being funneled into the car.

Actually, I will likely be creating a filter for any posts I make about this. I know that there are people on my flist who find discussions of weight/body image/fitness triggery for various reasons, and if you aren't comfortable reading about this, I completely understand.

8. Gaming. Those of you who know me really well likely know that I've been jonesing for some good tabletop roleplaying for over a year, ever since the 7th Sea campaign I was in came to an end. Now that [livejournal.com profile] curtana and [livejournal.com profile] forthright are back in town (with their 1st-level human in tow), they will each be running a game on alternating Sundays, and I'm in both. Huzzah! I really hope that I'll be able to manage my schedule in all of this, but I'm sure things will work out. They always do.

Anyway, that's what I'm up to these days (and in the near future). I had a lovely chat on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] joane and [livejournal.com profile] shenlo later on. I looked up their number on canada411.com, since for some reason I didn't have it. I'm not much of a phone person as a rule, but I thought it was high time we have a voice-to-voice conversation as opposed to just an online chat. Not that those aren't a great way of communicating, but sometimes it's nice to hear people's voices on the other end of the line. Also, I got to squee in person about Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic, which is all to the good. :)

Now I'm going to bed. Might post a poll about the aforementioned filter first, but then definitely bed. :)

You, me, t! and [livejournal.com profile] ai731 at the very least. Possibly others.
