Too busy to post

This isn't even one of those times when I thought "Ugh, I'm tired, maybe I'll just post another day." I have not had more than thirty minutes to myself at a stretch since... um... *thinks* I think last week, maybe? Possibly? I don't quite remember. In order to get a proper LJ entry done, I generally need a minimum of thirty minutes, and those entries are usually not particularly long or in-depth.

I worked overtime on Tuesday, as I mentioned in my previous entry. After that I came home and, because of the poor weather, I wasn't able to get started right away on the yard work. So we took it a little easier in the evening, since poor [livejournal.com profile] pdaughter seems to have come down with her gazillionth virus/cold/whatever this sore throat thing is since last year. The winter was not kind to her and Bean, and it seems to be spilling over into the spring/summer.

I slept incredibly badly from Tuesday to Wednesday. Like, three non-consecutive hours of sleep badly. I also pulled something in my neck, which is still sore even today when I turn my head the wrong way. I am unimpressed by that, to say the least.

Wednesday was spent getting the car fixed, doing yard work (it never ends), seeing the real estate agent, doing dishes, mopping the basement floor, doing a cursory clean of the kitchen and bathroom (much more cursory than I would have liked, to be honest), fetching the car, and getting some last-minute groceries. I had decided to sell my Ikea armchairs on Craigslist/Kijiji (if anyone local is interested, let me know! I'm selling them both for $75 or best offer, and they retail $149 each + taxes new), so I stuck the armchair covers in the laundry on Wednesday night.

Thursday morning Bean was in our room at 5:50, because it was "Sunny time!" (A couple of weeks ago he awoke and called for his mother, utterly confused. "Mama, it sunny time but the numbers on me clock are wrong!" The sun has been rising earlier, of course, but she's been telling him to wait until the numbers on his clock say 6 o'clock or later) At that point there seemed to be little to be gained by staying in bed, so we were all up bright and early to get ready for the day.

I had a wrestling match with the armchair covers, since they don't have much give to them, being a nice sturdy fabric. Still, I overcame the covers and managed to get a decent photo and upload it to Craigslist and Kijiji along with a brief ad.

I then proceeded to have the most productive morning ever. I left at the same time Bean and [livejournal.com profile] pdaughter headed out to school, and hit Canadian Tire for cleaning supplies, Mondou for some Nok-Out (it removes pet-related odours, for those of you who are curious), and then headed to Home Depot, where I bought 1,000 s.f. of new flooring and sub-flooring for the basement. This is going to be important in order to not lose my shirt when I sell the house. Even with a finished basement I'm barely going to break even on this sale, alas.

Once Home Depot was squared away, I stopped at Rona to get my reimbursement for the deposit I'd made on a shipping pallet (for the paving slabs I had delivered about 10 days ago). They'd lost my paperwork, so it took a little longer than I would have liked, but we eventually got everything sorted out and my deposit refunded. I stopped by City Hall to pick up the permit to build a fence in the yard (yay fence!), and headed home.

At home I pulled out the lawn mower and mowed both the front and the back lawns in just under an hour and a half, which isn't too bad, considering that I am not especially skilled with a lawn mower and both yards have a lot of corners and flower beds to work around. I took a water break after that and called my mother to let her know how things were going (and also to ask her to tell my father to stop freaking out every time I don't answer his emails within 24 hours :P). It's possible that stopping for a break was a bad idea, because I promptly ran out of steam at that point. It was 13:00 and I'd been going non-stop since 05:50, and once I sat down my body decided that, no, it was done, thank you very much.

[livejournal.com profile] pdaughter got back from class at that point, so we caught up on the various events of the morning, and I grabbed a bite to eat before heading back out into the yard to try to finish the damned project I've been working on for nearly two weeks now, whenever time and the weather permitted. I had pretty much finished all the digging I need to do (I hope), so I was optimistic that I could just put down the sand I had bought and then lay the paving slabs on top.

It turns out that I had severely underestimated the amount of sand I would need. I resigned myself to my fate and headed out to Réno Dépot to fetch more bags of sand, figuring I could get back by about 15:00. Hah. No dice. At the St. Anne de Bellevue underpass I was immediately stymied by a broken-down truck being towed away by a gigantic specialised tow truck. I sat at that intersection for 15 minutes, completely trapped because there was literally nowhere for me to turn. Then when I got to Réno Dépot they were unexpectedly busy, and I spent nearly half an hour in line waiting to pay for all my bags of sand. I bought an extra 8 bags, at 30 kg each. Let me tell you, hauling that much sand by myself? Not as much fun as it sounds. Everything hurts today, and the fact that I'd tweaked my neck the day before did not help matters. Nonetheless, I managed it, and brought all 240 kg of sand back with me in my wee Yaris. That car is amazing, folks. It really is like the TARDIS--I can fit a whackload of stuff in there!

I unloaded the sand when I got home, and realised that there was no way in hell I was going to get my project finished, not when I was at least 45 minutes later than when I thought I'd be home. So I hopped in the shower and managed to get out the door by 17:00. I stopped for dinner at a roadside diner about an hour later, since I felt like I was about to drop dead if I didn't have some kind of food, and ended up getting into Ottawa shortly before 20:00. Since that's when I'm supposed to be in bed I made the executive decision not to go grocery shopping last night, and so that means today I'll be buying my lunch at the cafeteria instead. It'll be worth the $8 to not have had to go to bed at 23:00 or potentially even later last night after grocery shopping and prepping all my lunches for the week. I will be getting groceries tonight, as well as stopping at Costco to fill up the car and buy cat food and a few other basics.

I woke up this morning (*blues* ba-da-da-da-DUM) with my throat feeling like the Sahara. I'm hoping this is just dehydration from yesterday and not the start of a sore throat/cold ([livejournal.com profile] pdaughter has had one for days, but one of the guys at OCC who was training me also had a sore throat on Tuesday, so he might be the culprit). Amusingly, my hands are sore and stiff from all the bags of sand I hauled around yesterday, enough that it's actually making it difficult for me to hold a pen at work and write, which is a little problematic, to say the least.

So that's what I've been up to, and the reason for the sporadic nature of my updates. I'll be updating more in June, of course. There are still over half the slots left open on my tell me what to write about meme for that month, so go ahead and give me subject matter! Pick a date, any date! :)
