Wasn't I just here?

I'm back at work, trying not to fall asleep over my data entry. Just got an interesting call about stolen prescription pads, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Went to baby Tallis' naming ceremony today, and while I was stupidly tired and a little dazed, I had a very good time. The ceremony was lovely and touching, and I started weeping about 1/4 of the way through [livejournal.com profile] jteethy's speech and didn't stop until the very end, when [livejournal.com profile] ashforestwalker read a lovely poem about advice from a tree. Everyone got to present a small, symbolic gift to Tallis, either a poem or a small object that captured something intangible that we wished for her to have in life.

Tallis was remarkably well-behaved throughout, and at the end [livejournal.com profile] pasley thanked her for not crying. I pointed out to [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter that Tallis was just about the only one who didn't cry during the ceremony. :P

The time came all too soon for me to go, however, and I didn't get much of a chance to talk to anyone. It was a busy event (Tallis is a popular girl!) and I was in a bit of a daze anyway. I stopped at a local dépanneur for milk and cream (the annoying people at the office finished it all and forgot to order more), and then walked to work. Luckily for me, the ceremony was being held about six blocks away from RCMP headquarters.

I hear a fax coming in. Back to the grindstone.

Hey. I'm thinking about you stuck there tonight. I'm actually home and going to sleep before midnight but I'm wishing you strength and composure to get through your night in good shape to enjoy tomorrow. I've got a contract out on that overtime fairy if it pushes you too much. There's a couple of piskies just aching to kick fairy butt. G'night.

You weren't the only one by a very long shot. I cried through the entire thing as well, and only just managed to choke out the words of my own wish for Tallis when it was my turn.
