mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Woe. And darkness. And teh sad.)

This is what happens when you remove your finger from the dam...

Today so far:

6 clients looking for overdue quotes. Some since September.

3 installers/designers calling for their clients concerning quotes.

2 very pissed-off clients calling about problems with the reno work.

5 slightly annoyed clients awaiting call-backs from various people who never called.

I've been at work for a little over two and a half hours. There have been over forty calls, and about twenty of those have resulted in a small-to-mid-range crisis.

Three days. Two sleeps and three days.

And then pie.

Here I was, reading and smiling along, and then I read PIE!

PIE! Pie! Mm... pie. I'll trade the booze for ice cream. HagenDazenYumenEatem

As for the Actual Goings On for Mouseme, ouch. Really sounds like those guys let their business get way, way out of control. They had a very fragile business process that broke when their previous office manager left, and egad, how quickly the house of cards blew apart in the wind storm of neglect.

It was a fragile and ill-defined business process. Fragile I can handle and have handled in the past. Ill-defined is a death-sentence, because then no one except the person who left knows what they're dealing with.

Mostly I'm frustrated right now because I can see all the places where stuff should have been fixed months ago and wasn't.

A job shouldn't be a person. If I leave a job, someone should be able to sit down in my seat and take over after two weeks of proper training. If I leave a job and no one knows what the hell is going on, it means something is fundamentally wrong with the process.

I think it reaches even further back than the previous office manager.

You know, it's starting to sound like we should just have an official Happy Laying Off! party for [livejournal.com profile] mousme and [livejournal.com profile] ashforestwalker this Friday night....

[livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse has volunteered to make pie. :)

[identity profile] owldaughter.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm at the point where I'm thinking we can provide the place, so long as we don't whoop it up too much after Liam's in bed, around 7 pm.

w00t!

Party!

I approve of parties. Low-key parties are good, too. In fact, I prefer them to high-key parties (is that even a word?).

[identity profile] owldaughter.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It is now!

I'm thinking I'll make a mess of lasagne or stew or something, you and HRH can come here straight from no-longer-work, a couple of other people will show up, we'll have dinner sprawled around the living room, pie and beverages will be consumed, and then maybe we can play a board game or some such thing. Or we can just talk. A nice realxing way to wind up a hard week.

[identity profile] toughlovemuse.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll pick up the pie ingredients on my grocery run. Assuming I'm invited that is.

Owl -- if you want me to come over early and help with setup I can do that too.

[identity profile] owldaughter.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, most excellent. How can you provide pie if you are not invited?

[identity profile] pasley.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I never do this, I swear, but. . .

Can I come, too?

My week has been nowhere near as rotten as it has been for some of y'all (sincerest condolences), but it's been pretty rough (I *just* finished marking 75 shitty essays and 46 only-semi-good fairy tales. . . all in less than one week). . .

PLUS, I might be coming down with a cold!

There's a bottle of Bailey's in the offing, and any food that's needed (it being payday tomorrow and all)

(Huh? HUH?! Actually, the mood I'm in these days, I might just crash your shindig anyway. You have been warned.)

[identity profile] owldaughter.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking this wouldn't be a problem. You'd actually get to see Liam for a bit too.

This is turning into a potluck. Bring what food you'd like to feed others!

Sounds CRAZY! I hope that things calm down for you. *hugs*

What was that quote again? "May you live in interesting times?"

singing: ...and a manager gone AWOL! [to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas"]

[identity profile] montecristo.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Saturday: play
Saturday night: sleep
Sunday: play
Sunday night: sleep
Monday: work

Three days, two sleeps. There is a problem somewhere?
