So, Tarasmas was, predictably, a resounding success.

I got onstage despite all my misguivings, and people actually heard me, which was a relief. I don't project well, as a rule. I resurrected my truly bad Italian accent for the role of Cornella, the housekeeper in a Victorian murder mystery, and brandished a feather duster at people. [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter was a big hit as the heroine of the mystery, and [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti and a non-LJ user named A. kept the crowd in stitches with their mock-Southern accents. ("Ah sense something terrible has happened he-ah!")

Of course, Tarasmas would not be Tarasmas without a Dickens Carter performance, in which [livejournal.com profile] talyesin once again played the title role. [livejournal.com profile] sandman7 reprised his role as the nefarious (nefalious?) Rollins, err, Lawrence, the evil Chinese overlord with the really awful accent.

I don't think I've laughed that hard since last year at Tarasmas. For reasons I didn't catch because I was laughing too hard, Lawrence at one point began quoting "Jabberwocky." At that moment, I think I stopped breathing for about a minute.

"'Twas blirig, and the srithy toves
Did gyle and gimbre in the wabe;
Arr mimsy were the bologoves,
And the mome laths outglabe..."

Yeah. It was awesome. [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse played Porry, I mean Polly Avery, and I was rather pleased that she married Carter, although secretly I was sort of rooting for the laconic cop.

"So when she asks if we'll have the usual I say 'yes' and he just nods."

[livejournal.com profile] sorceror was brilliant as an army of robots who talked like Anglican cantors, and of course [livejournal.com profile] jdhobbes was suitably swashbuckly as Captain Caspian Courageous, Corsair of the Cosmos! There were princesses in distress, dastardly villains, a feline sidekick ("Miaow."), a lecherous duke, a beautiful and deadly heroine, and, of course, a Legendary Singing Sword. ("What, you were expecting a glaive guisarme?")

The puns flew thick and fast, and I don't think I stopped laughing after the first punchline of the evening. There was booze, there was food.

Good company, good friends, and a talented scriptwriter. Good times.

Oh, and an informal "talk like Lawrence" contest, in which [livejournal.com profile] miseri and I broke people's brains by singing tunes from Fiddler on the Roof.

"Tladition!"

"Wondel of wondels, milacre of milacres, God took the Tayrol by the hand and red him to the Plomised Rand!"

"Mem'lies, arr arone in the moonright..."

Etc.

And, because I didn't look at my computer yesterday, I have to wish a belated Happy Birthday! to [livejournal.com profile] ai731. Huzzah!

No, French I can do, and it sounds better than what I produced on Saturday. ^_-

Really. ;)

Btw, I keep drawing a blank on your character's name. What was it?

I think I heard an accent, saw you were a maid and assumed you were a French Maid.

His name is Grant.

Heh. It was a "Generic Bad European accent," I think. :D

As the consumate professional, I'm proud to put the "suit" back into suitable, the "buckle" back into swashbuckle, the "apt" in Captain, and the "air" in Corsair.

My one regret was not to strike a pose at the end with the princess sitting at my feet, arms wrapped around my leg, looking up in wonder and awe.

And a fan flowing our hair out dramatically... that would've been good.

I have to see what I can do to get a digital video of T! expounding on the professionalism of consumates.

I would have liked to be there, but the travelling schedule forbade it. Maybe next year.
