Brunch and other good things

Okay, so this week brunch will take place as usual at 10:30am at the Eggspectations at the AMC Forum.

However, since a number of people have complained about prices (and I admit, I find them a bit steep too), I want suggestions for a different brunch venue. Obviously, this applies to the Montrealers on my friends list. Sorry to all you out-of-towners, but you lack the local knowledge to help me out, here. ;)

Here are the criteria:

A) Fairly central location to downtown, or really accessible by metro. I don't want people getting lost on the bus or anything. Brunch is not meant to be a hassle.

B) Reasonably inexpensive. $10 and above is what we spend at Eggspectations, so anywhere that can offer decent-quality food for less is welcome.

C) A reasonable amount of variety in the menu. Not everyone wants eggs and sausage for breakfast. :)

Basically, use your common sense when making suggestions.

Um... dare I say Peel Pub?

Or will that get me pelted with unpalatable foodstuffs?

Cora Breakfast, I think on Peel? Right next to the Chapters too. ;)

Good location. How much does it cost?

To start with, I think I got the street wrong.

And usually under ten dollars, depending on what you get. :) The fruit blend drinks are pricier, but that's to be expected, eh?

It's often very crowded there on weekends, though. You would probably have to make reservations. It's not a bad wait to get a table for two, but depending on how many people show, you could be waiting a while.

It may sound silly, but what about Mike's? They have a large breakfast menu, and it's not too pricey. There's one on St. Catherine downtown, though I'd be hard-pressed to tell you what corner it's near. Mackay perhaps? Or possibly Crescent?

DINER! It's not as pretty, but it's right on Ste. Catherine, near Fort. I think we might be able to take over some tables in the back, though the front part is all booths.

Cocktail Hawaii? It's mainly crepes but here isn't anything over 7$ on the menu and it's steps away from Guy metro.

I would also like to suggest that we bring a few things with us and invade a person's house for brunch. More flexible times and cheaper.

[identity profile] ai731.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The main problem I see with that is that there has to be someone who's got a reasonably centrally-located place who's willing to be invaded once a week and who doesn't have cats.

The only reason I've never hosted a brunch, apart from the fact that I'd have to spend a few days scrubbing this place from top to bottom, is that a good quarter of my friends are too allergic to cats to be able to stay for more than a few minutes.

Funny, I've never seen it. Where exactly is it?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'll check it out this weekend. What is it called?

[identity profile] joenotcharles.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a lot of Chez Cora's, and I wasn't under the impression they're that much cheaper than Eggspectations.

Mike's gets my vote. It's near - uh, Drummond I think.

Woah, interface being weird. I may have posted this once already, but - Mike's gets my vote. Not that I'm ever awake to show up.

In good weather you could picnic.

Its on De Maisonneuve, between Guy and St. Mathieu. Good cheap food, but the table situation there is a bit odd. I'm not sure how well it would accomodate 6 or more folks.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but we live in Montreal, where there are two seasons: Winter and Construction.

That makes possibly eight weeks out of fifty-two that we could reasonably picnic. Picnics also take a lot more planning. Not the best option, but good every now and then.

[identity profile] mellybean71.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Gods. I don't remember the exact address but I think it's on de Maisoneuve. It's not as classy a place-- you order at the counter and have to carry stuff yourself but the food is really good and I think they do a basic egg breakfast besides doing crepes. Putting tables together could be tricky (I think they're round) but it should be easy enough to have the group all in one area at least.

[identity profile] joenotcharles.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And we're right in the middle of those eight weeks - why waste it?

[identity profile] karine.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The Old Port is great for that, especially near Square Victoria. I used to picnic every lunch that it was nice out when I was working in the area.

Umn, I think it's called Diner. It's on the north side of Ste. Catherine. It might not be the best place for a large group, and I can't remember what's on the menu, but do give it a look-see.
