Happy birthday to me, belatedly

Got myself an external hard drive as a belated birthday present, because my computer was making angry noises at me about how much space I'm taking up with my downloads. I got 30% off on it, too. Score!

Also, I am SAD and OBSESSED. I think I mentioned it. I've been watching the DVD commentaries of Supernatural. I NEVER watch DVD commentaries of anything. I think there may be something seriously wrong with me when it comes to this show. I really, really don't understand what my problem is, I've never done this with a TV show before.

I used to do this with books. I'd find an author/series I loved, read all of it in one gulp, and sometimes re-read them a few times within a few weeks. I haven't done it since I was in high school, though. Maybe CEGEP.

Oy.

Further to also, I'm now paying attention to lighting, camera angles, musical choices, and specific instances of body language. Thank goodness I have to go back to work, otherwise I might end up holed up like a crazy person with charts and diagrams on my wall, imagining that the TV is talking to me. Eesh.

Okay, it's not that bad. But still, I am confusing myself, here. What the hell, Phnee?

Dude, are you saying I'm schizophrenic? :P

I'll cop to bipolar, but I have never had a total break with reality (reality and I took a short break a couple of times, but it was temporary and we both apologized and we're on better terms now).

I saw that movie when it came out. It was great from a story perspective, but annoying in that its portrayal of mental illness wasn't... umm... exactly accurate. A lot of people came away thinking that mental illness is just a question of mind over matter and that schizophrenics don't need to take their meds, which is pretty much bullshit.

[identity profile] bodhifox.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Reality? There's only one? I walk in so many planes and dimensions it'd make your head spin.

I referenced that movie because of the stuff on the walls.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
You've never seen my "Writing Wall," have you? It's in my basement. I scribble things, make flow charts, plot things out, do it all in multi-coloured felt pen, and then it all gets taped to the wall.

But yeah. Stuff on walls. Totally not crazy.

I found out a long time ago that I have to stick to one reality at a time. My brain is vastly unhappy about drifting from one to the other. Of course, my reality isn't exactly the same reality as those of the people I'm around. Not at the same time, anyway. I think they find me disorienting.

My favourite thing to do at work is randomly yell at people: "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" It's fun.

I have sheet after sheet of steno pad pages EVERYWHERE.

And no, I have not even seen your place, much less your walls. I can not get into your country.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we really need to fix that.

Steno pad pages, eh? Mine is just lined notepaper. Serves its purpose.

[identity profile] bodhifox.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Steno pads from work. Shhh.

[identity profile] fearsclave.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
It could be worse. You could have taken up kni... never mind.

[identity profile] bodhifox.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Or knallbinding. Which one burly kilt wearing dude on my flist is doing.

Knallbinding is manly.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds vaguely dirty.

[identity profile] bodhifox.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's Viking knitting, you loon.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Umm... yeah.

I'm not nearly as obsessed with my knitting, though...

[identity profile] fearsclave.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Can't sleep either, huh?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Watching Supernatural. ;)

I'm not worried. I have to work night shift all weekend anyway, so I may as well stick with the night-owl schedule.

[identity profile] toughlovemuse.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And not replying to my e-mails! I am on tenterhooks here! Did you try on the socks?????

[identity profile] catsarah.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone needs a hobby :D

Wish I lived closer, I could aid and abet and enable you :D

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know! It's sad that you are so far.

If you ever get an urge to come to Montreal, my sofa-bed is super comfy, and I will feed you popcorn and make you watch Supernatural until you can't take it anymore. :)

[identity profile] fearsclave.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Feed her popcorn? Make her watch Supernatural?

I thought that the CIA made you sign a non-disclosure about the interrogation techniques you learned on that summer internship?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Shhh!

It's not violating the non-disclosure if she never realizes she's being interrogated. ;)

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
*chortles gleefully*

[identity profile] catsarah.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me when you'd like company and I will see what I can arrange :D

And yes, your sofa bed IS super comfy :D

[identity profile] fearsclave.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think that this is an excellent idea!

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I am inclined to agree. :)

[identity profile] catsarah.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! We could do Smoke Meat Pete's again :D

[identity profile] fearsclave.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Yes! Among the many other fun things one can do in Montreal!

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Will you be coming as well, then?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
w00t! Count me in this time. :)

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Cool!

Uh... every two weeks I get the equivalent of a three-day weekend, so if you're up for a quickie visit for that length of time, you'd be most welcome. You and the Fae one too, for that matter, if'n she's so inclined.

Otherwise, because of the Olympics, I am not allowed to take time off until the end of March. See, the RCMP is responsible for event security, and we're all deemed "essential personnel," so there's an RCMP-wide moratorium on vacations during that time.

What do you think?

[identity profile] catsarah.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, give me the dates of your three day weekends, and I can arrange to arrive at a time to get the maximum oompf out of the time you have. And I can ask the Fae one too, she might be a little less crazy by the time a trip could be arranged *ducks *.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sanity is overrated. The Fae one is welcome if she's feeling up to it. It's a non-stress event. Lounging about and watching fun TV. :)

"Free weekends" are as follows:

Jan. 29-30-31

Feb. 12-13-14 (Not as great 'cause I'm coming off a night shift, but doable if you come Friday evening)

Feb. 26-27-28

Mar. 12-13-14 (another end of night shift)

Mar. 26-27-28

I'll leave it there for now. If you want dates for later months, I can provide those too. :)

[identity profile] guruwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not the person you were inviting, but I must say, that sounds utterly fabulous!! :D

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you want to come? It doesn't have to be the same weekend (my place isn't all that big), and I have plenty of popcorn. :D

[identity profile] guruwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I may just take you up on that! :D (Seriously! :) I'll be in touch! :) )

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome. Do you have my email?

[identity profile] guruwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got your yahoo IM, or I could PM you here. :) Will that work? *iz excited about going to Montréal*

[identity profile] pdaughter.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I say : Chock it all up to the power of the Winchesters!

Muahahahaha

So are you a Sam girl? or a Dean girl? LOL

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I am an equal opportunity girl!

Seriously, I like them both for very different reasons. (I also love your icon)

[identity profile] silly-imp.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't borrow the series from you...

Also if you ever need an obsession break, ring me.

[identity profile] gats.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, why do feel that enjoying a tvshow very much, is a sad thing?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's not the enjoying that I find sad. I have enjoyed many many TV shows in the past. This one... I don't know. I've never obsessed quite so badly over a show before. I mean, I've watched the whole thing (all four and a half seasons) twice since October, and am watching it over again. It's a little disturbing. :)

[identity profile] gats.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
But isn't obsessing over tv shows normal? I thought that was what being a geek was about. I know I've rewatched really good show many, many times.
