Something to be said for gardening

Although I was enthused at the idea of having my own veggie garden, I must admit that I never expected to enjoy gardening quite this much. There is something wonderfully peaceful about going outside and simply puttering, pulling a weed here, fussing about a plant there. I even enjoy watering the garden with my new hose.

Perhaps it's the "new shiny" aspect of it all, but I think I'm going to enjoy this in the long term as well.

Once I'm off night shift, I think I'll be spending a lot of time in the garden. :)

Did the netting work on the gofer? I forgot to set up my trap and the little bugger has eaten our basil and ruined two tomato plants...where did you buy the netting?

So far the remaining lettuce is intact, and the old lettuce appears to be growing back! I'm very excited.

It's just standard netting to keep the birds out: bought it at Home Depot. It's about $6 for a bag, I forget the exact dimensions.

In random news, your icon drives me crazy. I keep thinking there's a bug on my screen. ;)

Thanks, I'm going to pop down to Home Depot and look into it...

P.S. that icon has fooled many people :))

Yay! I'm really glad to hear your enjoying it!

I used to do some great puttering in the garden when I lived in the UK - I had a regular 9-5 day job and practically no social life, so my Sundays were usually entirely my own. I would wander out into the garden with my morning cup of coffee, just to see how everything was doing, and start puttering. Three hours and two cups of coffee later, it would occur to me that I should probably eat breakfast...

It looks like I'm finally going to get to start planting out here over the next few days. We've finally got a 6ft by 20ft section double-dug, and I got half of it raked this afternoon, so I can start planting tomorrow - only about a month late, but at least half of that is due to weather. Better late than never!

Yup gardening is addictive.
