Or, as forthright would put it: "Oh, Stephen Harper, you clod!"

Okay, it's probably not a secret that I'm not a fan of the not-so-charismatic leader of the Conservative Party. However, I leave it up to you to read this text of a speech he gave to a right-wing US think tank back in 1997 and make up your own minds.

If you think he's full of shit, by all means propagate the link in your blogs. After all, the more people see this, the better.

Heck, if you agree with the sentiment, pass it along. After all, the more people see this, the better.

It's not as dire as the Liberal Party is making it out to be, but it's still pretty appalling, IMNSHO. And, as fearsclave said, it does open him up to accusations of having a concealed extreme right-wing agenda, regardless of whether it's true.

The lesson is this, boys and girls: it's not a good idea to make unguarded extremist statements at any time if you're in politics. They will come back to bite you on the ass. I'm looking forward to seeing the Conservatives skate around on this one.

If I might...

It's easy to dig up things all politicians in the race have said 8 years ago. They all have really stupid, incriminating things on their record.

Plus, it's 8 years ago. People change their minds. People evolve.

I don't like Harper. However, I like the ideas that have been proposed so far. Being a young parent, some of his ideas are well worth my vote.

I'm still going to take a better look at the Green platform... and I'm still going to hope they make it in the debates in January.

Now the journalist in me is asking: Where did the liberal party find this speech? How reliable was the source that gave it to the? What kind of efforts have they gone through to make sure this is a legit transcript of Harper's speech (ie. fact checking its authenticity)before they put it up on their website?
