If it consoles you the least bit, the renowned (well, renowned around here) Finnish author Pirkko Saisio lost the entirety of her latest novel somewhere on 2002, I think, when her computer crashed, and she had to write it all over again. The book then won the Finlandia prize, the highest literary prize in Finland.
