Another gaming story

Thinking about my favourite gaming stories, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] curtana. This is another Deadlands bit, featuring the infamous James Bartholomew Taft, quickest living gun in the West, and Emily Smith, niece of Jacob Smith of Smith & Robards, the famous inventors and mad scientists. As a parting gift, her uncle Jacob had given Emily a rifle-umbrella (much more ladylike, don't you think?), just in case she needed extra protection.

So there we were, in the wreckage of a train, fighting off giant automatons. Don't ask. Taft was diligently firing his Winchester at the automatons, when:

*blam!* *blam!* *click*

Taft: "Aww, hell!"

Emily: "What?"

Taft: "I'm out of ammunition!"

Emily: *holds out her umbrella* "Here, use this."

Taft: *looks at her as though she's crazy* "That's an umbrella!"

Emily: "No, it's a rifle."

Taft: "Umbrella!"

Emily: "Rifle."

Taft: "Umbrella!"

Emily: *aims umbrella-rifle at automatons*

*blam!*

Emily: "Rifle."

Love it. Sounds like a scene I'd have played.

It was a favourite scene for the longest time. Actually, you probably won't be surprised to hear that Emily was being played by [livejournal.com profile] meallanmouse (I hope I spelled that right. It was easier to spell when she was Firewillow. ^_-). Taft was an NPC.
