It's aliiiive!

Two posts in the same day (let alone the same week)! Quick, someone call the paramedics!

Actually, I'm posting because I just used my Scooba for the very first time. :)

Let me start out by saying that I am very impressed so far. I set up the Scooba last night (I'm trying to find a name for it, suggestions are welcome) and plugged it in to charge overnight. Then last night and this morning I made a big effort to clear out everything from the dining room and kitchen so that I could clean in there. I swept and vacuumed first because I didn't want the poor little Scooba to get overwhelmed on its first trip out and die a sad death.

Once all was cleared and the floor was as "clean" as it was going to get without washing, I got out the Scooba. I filled the tank, as per instructions, and placed it in the middle of the room, following what my Owner's Manual told me. Then I pressed "power" and "clean" and waited for the magic to happen.

Naturally, nothing happened.

I fussed with it for a while, because the "check tank" light was on, which meant some sort of difficulty. I did all the troubleshooting things I could find at the back of the manual, but still nothing happened. In despair I called Customer Support, and just as I got on the line... the Scooba came to life.

The Scooba is really, really cute. It sings a little electronic song when you turn it on. :) It then spins round and round on itself before setting out in concentric circles. Then it figures out its own "pattern" of cleaning and goes swooping and spiraling around the room, washing as it goes.

The cats were unimpressed. Gretzky, Pan-Pan and Smudge all stayed in the living room, where it was "safe," while George followed the Scooba around suspiciously for a good ten minutes, sniffing at it and recoiling every time it made any kind of noise, crouching down with his ears flat against his head and his tail lashing back and forth. Eventually he retreated to a safe distance and just watched it, making sure it didn't get up to any funny stuff.

I left the Scooba up to its own devices after that, and when it sang its little "I'm finished! Come and get me!" song, I wandered over to see the end results. Let me tell you, I am impressed. The floor is not completely clean, but given how filthy it was, I doubt I could have gotten it clean myself in one go.

Scooba was ridiculously easy to clean, too. It comes apart very easily, and all the parts go under running water. The water in the "dirty water" tank was filthy. I mean seriously, disgustingly filthy. It didn't look like water so much as thin sludge. I never realized that floors could even get that disgusting. I am appalled, but also quite pleased at the thought that my floors will never have been this clean. The individual parts were also icky, but were very easy to clean, as I said. I thoroughly rinsed out both tanks (there's a "clean water" tank and a "dirty water" tank), and everything is drying out as I type this.

I've put the Scooba back to charge, and I'm hoping that it'll charge fast enough that I can send it for another go-round this afternoon. I think that one more time around the floor should get things cleaner than I've had them in months.

:::Edit:::

Okay, so I forgot to post this when I wrote it, but after two hours the Scooba is recharged, and I've sent the Scooba off on another go-round. The cats have all retreated to the living room, and are glaring at me.
