With a few hours to spare
So the place is clean. Did the last of the scrubbing today, and all that's left for tomorrow morning is strictly cosmetic.
Made the soup tonight. Am trying
luvenditti's world-famous corn chowder as an entrée (no, I'm not kidding: people fight over this soup!), and the main course will be lemon tarragon roasted cornish hens with a side dish of asparagus (I made mayonnaise for the very first time today, and I think it turned out not bad at all!) and another of wild rice with raisins and almonds (it's a sauté recipe). The wild rice has been partially prepared tonight: all it needs is to be sautéed in the relevant ingredients tomorrow.
If I can pull it all together, it should work really, really well.
If I can drag my ass out of bed early enough, too, I might have time to make banana bread. If not, I shall make the aforementioned banana bread after lunch, while I chat with
joane and
shenlo. I'd love to have the whole place smelling of banana bread when they arrive, though. There's nothing nicer than the smell of baking banana bread.
I really need a cooking icon. Maybe I shall do that while the soup heats. I had to alter the recipe a bit to make it work, and I'm wondering if I might not need to adjust it again a little bit. It seems a little heavy on the cream and a little light on the corn in its current incarnation (taste-wise). However, I am reserving judgment until it's heated through.
Off to go find a cooking icon.
