I'm sticking around

I hadn't heard about the latest bullsh*t with LiveJournal, but I'm sticking around for now. I have a back-up under the same name at Dreamwidth, if it comes to that, but I've never liked DW as much, and LJ is where I have my permanent account and ten billion icons. The idea of losing that and more makes me a little sick to my stomach, to be honest.

I should probably go back up my creative writing journal, to be on the safe side. *sigh*

Like every other major change with LJ, though, I suspect this will end up being another tempest in a teapot, because I'm an optimist that way.

What now?

I'm not worried. This is the same periodical panic that grips LJ.

I feel the same way. I created a back-up at DW, but I'm not interested in using it as anything but a fail-safe.

LJ is moving all their servers to Russia, so people are freaking out.

Pretty much. LJ users are crotchety and disinclined to acquiesce to change. I'm a little leery of all the servers being in Russia just from an accessibility perspective, and I will be a LOT more careful (and I'm already VERY careful) when I post about work, but beyond that, I'm not worried. If everything ends up shutting down, well, that'll be that. I've had this account for nearly fifteen years on LJ, I'm not about to abandon it now.

Yep. Dreamwidth is a back-up, not my pain posting space. I have to try to remember to back up my LJ there more often (with comments), so that if LJ ever does go belly-up, I won't lose everything, but that's it. I've had my LJ account for almost fifteen years, I'm not about to give up now.

Yep, exactly. I just had an awful pang when I thought about all of those posts disappearing.

When I moved to Germany, I had a Hotmail account, and chronicled the move in emails to my mom. Then I didn't check in for a while, and MS deleted my account, and woosh, all of those posts were gone. I definitely dont want that to happen again!

Well, it IS (and has been) a Russian owned company. Not much can be done about that. I'll just ride it out like I have every other LJ panic...
