Making It Official

So many of you probably already know this, since I've talked about it in person, but I figured I would make it doubly official by saying it here. I'm also hoping that putting it out there in public and acknowledging it before the Universe will give me a bit of extra motivation to get my act together.

I have decided to apply to become a regular member of the RCMP.

I have all sorts of good reasons to do this, and I'm looking forward to trying. However, I have a LONG way to go, fitness-wise, if I want to get in. So for the next little while, I'm going to be focussing a lot on getting into shape. I am posting all about this in a different LJ, so you needn't worry about my boring you to death with all those details. If you want to be bored to death, then by all means let me know and I'll provide you with the name.

Right now, tentatively, I have set myself a goal of being in a position to start the application process in January. It's an ambitious goal, but given how long the overall process takes (it's even longer than applying for my current job), I think it's also reasonable.

So that's that. Wish me luck!

Yeah, eyesight is a big factor. Colour-blindness will also get you excluded, since it means you can't give reliable descriptions of vehicles and subjects. Apart from that, if you're able to pass all the tests (physical, psychological and written), then you're pretty much home free until you get to Depot for your training.

Yep. I see them recruiting a lot at dragon boating events, especially the ones their team participates in.

Anyhow, what made you decide to switch career paths?

Well, I don't view it as path change so much as a logical extension of what I'm doing now. It didn't occur to me until recently that I might actually be able to be a police officer, due to my current level of fitness. Then I thought, why not? I'll train as hard as I can, see if I can get into shape, and give it my best shot. The worst that can happen is that I'll stay in my current position and be in better physical shape. :)

Really? I'm no expert, but I would have thought it'd be a whole different kettle of fish. Anyhow, I managed it so I'm sure you can too. ^_^
