Mindful Living

Okay, flist.

Tell me how you live mindfully. (If applicable, that is.) What is your definition/notion/interpretation of mindful living? Explain, please. :)

For me, it's just being aware of my environment and trying to make as little impact on it as possible, not over valuing the material items (which can be difficult). Also, being aware of other people, that they have feelings and aren't perfect. And I hope to pass along these things to Daughter.

With dedication to a spiritual path, and accepting that I will stray from it.

Yes.

In the second scroll of Wen the Eternally Surprised a story is written concerning one day when the apprentice Clodpool, in a rebellious mood, approached Wen and spake thusly: "Master, what is the difference between a humanistic, monastic system of belief in which wisdom is sought by means of an apparently nonsensical system of questions and answers, and a lot of mystic gibberish made up on the spur of the moment?" Wen considered this for some time, and at last said: "A fish!" And Clodpool went away, satisfied.

I'd recommend Jon Kabat Zinn's Wherever you go, there you are.

In a nutshell, remaining undistracted, aware of your surroundings, aware of your inner state, conscious of the reality around you, and not getting distracted by angst over what's past or what's to come. Which is pretty hard to maintain, especially if you have the attention span of a chipmunk on speed like I do.
