Dear flist

Okay, I have a slightly weird question for y'all. (To those of you whom I've already asked, please forgive the repetition)

I'm looking for any and all information on serious ghost hunting. Y'know, EVPs, images in photos ("I swear that wasn't there when I snapped the shot!"), and all technology related thereto. Books, videos, TV shows, anything you can think of that isn't produced by people with cotton candy for brains.

Also, and this is actually related, I would like to learn about the technical aspects of photography. This is all going to end up as a work of fiction, but I know diddly about the ins and outs of taking pictures and developing one's own film, and all that sort of thing. What I need is some sources that will explain it to me as though I were a five-year-old and in turn allow me to sound as though I know what I'm talking about when I start writing about someone who is a competent amateur photographer.

Yes, I will be doing my own research on all of this, but it always helps to have friends and others who actually know what they're doing point me in the right direction first.

Thanks for your help!

I can give you a tour of a real Darkroom and the Lesson sheets for the students Ie Chemicals/times etc.

Let me know.

Oh, wow. Really? That would be most excellent. When would be a convenient time for you to do this? (ie, when are there no students and you have free time and the lab-thing is open?)

The Shadowlands is a good page, and has a large ghost-hunting section, plus photo galleries - and they address a number of factors to watch out for when taking pictures (i.e. be aware of your breath if it's cold where you're photographing, tie back any long hair, remove camera straps, watch for reflective surfaces, etc.) so they're not total kooks ;)

As ssilly as it sounds, the ghost experts who show up in Poltergeist actually go about it the standard way. Until they bring in the medium, anyway, and even that's kind of standard. And the show Ghost Hunters, especially in the first season, has little blurbs during episodes about the technology they use and what they're looking for.

Hm. I'm not sure how you'd cast an load ectoplasmic ammo, let alone what you'd do with the ghost once you'd bagged it. AFAIK, they're not edible, and getting it to the taxidermist, let alone stuffed and mounted over your fireplace, would likely be problematic.

d00d, run!

:D

I figured I can always cast 'em in epoxy.

DOOD!

I know how to develop both black and white film and photos, if the visit with HRH requires more subsequent info. I attended photography classes in school as both extracurricular and program classes.

Wednesday the 2nd of April is a ped day. So if you can get here I'll give you a tour.

HRH.

I posted for Adrina, btw. I'm going to be able to manage about one post per day this week, I think. Any requests for characters you and any of the other GMs need before the others (for purposes of continuing the plot, or what have you)?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Would mid-afternoon work? I'm at work until 14:30, after which I can hop on public transit and get there (if instructions are provided) probably for 15:30 or so.

[identity profile] joane.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw that! I dropped you a note re: that, actually... SG4 was going to head into the labs next. Is that going to screw anything up with regards to your plans for Adri?

Delaney's ok as long as you're good with me having her shoot something every once in a while. :P I'd say Dickie's next, if you'e so inspired - SG6 hasn't done anything since the weekend, and I think you wanted to clear the storage section?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, thank you!

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Dickie it is.

I can work around SG4's coming to the lab. My thought was to have the drones all have come out in search of nummy human brains, thus leaving the lab open to pilfering by Adrina. I also want to run the possibility of a survivor by you (there are details involved, so this might work better via IM when I get home).

[identity profile] joane.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds good! And if West is setting off explosions in the hallway, that would definitely draw them out and away from Fontanesi. What time are you home tonight?

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Past 11pm my time, sadly. We're more likely to run into each other online in the morning.

[identity profile] ashforestwalker.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds great, I'll call you with direction this week.

HRH.

I sent two pics to [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter and [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave since I don't have your email that I took around Christmas. Sparky is looking at me and then looking up at something, you can track her eyes in the second pic, taken with a little digital and there was nothing there, but she was looking at it and it showed up. It isn't dust or a moth or anything. Just sayin', is all.

Take one uber sensitive child around the darkest night of the year, bring out ornaments that belonged to grandparents and great grandparents and voilà!

Huzzah!

[identity profile] joane.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oof. True. And I'm not around tomorrow (working). I can check email during my breaks, however, so that might be best if this is time-sensitive.

Sent you an email. :)

Salut!

Je te suggère fortement d'entrer en contact avec April, c'est ce qu'elle fait. Elle fait partie d'une association de Ghosthunters du sud des États et va sur quelques hunts à l'occasion. Avec tous les gizmos pis le bataclan.

[identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
C'est vrai, j'avais oublié. Merci!

Pour ce qui est de la photographie, je peux te donner un cours complet la dessus avec plaisir :) Aussi bien la photo sur 35mm que par le biais du digital. Quand tu veux, c'est toujours un plaisir de partager une passion! :)
