Foiled.

The light on the front porch has been burnt out for a few months. So today I went out and bought new bulbs. I checked the label on the energy-saving bulbs, and nothing seemed to indicate that I shouldn't use them in this particular socket. So I happily bought two and brought them home.

I unscrewed the pretty decorative cover at risk to life and limb (my ladder and I are both somewhat too short for the job, it turns out), removed the scores of dead bugs (eww!), and screwed in the new bulb, only to discover that the new bulbs are ever so slightly longer than the old ones, and the decorative cover wouldn't screw back on.

Blast.

So now I have to go back out and buy regular bulbs. I screwed the decorative cover back on, at least, so it won't lie around for the next three months until I get "just a moment" to fix it.

I was really looking forward to having light outside again, too. That reminds me, I think the lights at the back also need replacing.
