In which Phnee is a squeeing fangirl

So I went to [livejournal.com profile] grimmwire's birthday party tonight (well, technically yesterday). Had a great time. Chatted about graphic novels and movies and had a super interesting conversation about the differences in how people grok language. The language conversation was with a bunch of people whom I had just met, including a lovely lady with an English-sounding accent (I think it may have been Welsh, but there was a lot of background noise), and we had a very good time throwing ideas around.

The time came for me to leave (I have an early-ish day tomorrow), and I realized that I hadn't been introduced to most of the people, and vice versa.

"I'm Jo," said the nice lady.

Someone made a joke about Jo needing no last name, like Cher, and there was general merriment, but of course I then had to ask what it was.

"It's Jo Walton."

I confess, I squeaked. "Oh my goodness! HI!" and then I shook her hand all over again and giggled like an idiot.

She was very very nice and gave me a hug. :D

[livejournal.com profile] kino_kid had tried to warn me, apparently, knowing that I am, in her words, "excitable," but alas the opportunity didn't arise in time.

It was nice, if somewhat embarrassing. Apparently I have never stopped being twelve years old. ;)

I think it may have been Welsh

You have a good ear for accents.

Was good to see you. Cool haircut, BTW.

Glad you had a good (if embarrassing) time.

Wait, we have a Nebula Award-nominated novelist living here in Montreal? AND she's Welsh???

How, --, but why, and.... wait. I need to pay attention to things more often.

*sigh*

Jo keeps a surprisingly low profile.

I am amazed at how Montreal's circles of who-knows-who turn around sometimes.

It never occurred to me that Phnee didn't know Jo.

No, we managed never to cross paths in person. :)

Still no clue.

We're sort of in the same neighborhood. I see her at the grocery store occasionally.
